Israel Threatens Yemen: A New Escalation Looms

NYN | News

The operation carried out by Sana’a forces deep inside Israeli territory on Sunday has caused widespread military and political confusion, after a Yemeni drone strike on Ramon Airport triggered a state of emergency and urgent repercussions within Israel.

Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency service announced that the number of casualties from the drone launched from Yemen and striking Ramon Airport in southern Israel has risen to eight people — including five injured by shrapnel, concussions, and minor wounds, and three others suffering from panic attacks.

Channel 12 reported that an aircraft belonging to Israir Airlines, en route to Ramon Airport, was forced to change course and make an emergency landing at Ben Gurion Airport following the attack — a scene reflecting the level of surprise and confusion caused by the strike.

Channel 13 stated that the Yemeni attack appears to be part of an attempt to impose a new equation: “an eye for an eye, an airport for an airport.” The channel quoted a senior security source saying that the Israeli military will respond forcefully to this targeting.

Channel 12 also emphasized that the failure to detect the drone before it reached Ramon Airport raised many questions, calling the incident exceptional and reminiscent of previous threats to Ben Gurion Airport, warning that this could have serious implications for Israel’s security.

The attack marks a new escalation in the series of Yemeni strikes on Israeli targets and reveals the growing capabilities of Yemeni drones to penetrate air defenses and reach strategic objectives.
