Israeli Concerns Over a Repeat of the “Trump Withdrawal” with Iran After the Red Sea Experience

Maariv: Tel Aviv Fears a Sudden U.S. Deal with Tehran Similar to the Yemen Agreement

The Hebrew newspaper Maariv has revealed growing concerns within Israel’s political and military circles over the possibility that U.S. President Donald Trump may repeat a scenario of withdrawal and sudden understandings—this time with Iran—similar to what he previously did in the Red Sea file involving the Houthis.

The Ansar Allah Experience Still Fresh in Memory

The newspaper explained that Israeli officials continue to recall what happened following the U.S. military operation dubbed “Strong Knight,” which Washington carried out in March 2025 against Houthi forces in Yemen. Only about a month later, Trump surprised all parties by announcing a withdrawal from the Red Sea and reaching an agreement with the Houthis, without involving or coordinating with Israel.

Fear of Marginalizing Tel Aviv in Any Understanding with Tehran

Maariv added that decision-making circles in Tel Aviv fear Trump could adopt the same approach with Iran, by entering into direct political or security understandings or deals with Tehran without taking Israeli interests into account—something Israel considers a strategic threat to its security and to its standing in Washington’s regional calculations.

Erosion of Trust in U.S. Coordination

According to the newspaper, these concerns reflect a decline in Israel’s level of confidence in the U.S. administration’s commitment to full coordination with Tel Aviv, particularly on sensitive files related to Iran and the so-called “Axis of Resistance,” amid what Israeli circles describe as Trump’s “excessive pragmatism” in managing regional conflicts.
