Southern journalist Anis Mansour revealed in a post on his X platform account that official documents leaked from the UAE Red Crescent prove Abu Dhabi’s involvement in the 2020 assassination of Commander Ahed Al-Shabooti, Chief of Staff of the Third Infantry Brigade in the Western Coast forces affiliated with the coalition.
Mansour explained that the documents show the operation was carried out by the UAE’s Unit T on March 19, 2020, under the designation of a “special operation to deal with Ahed Al-Shabooti.” He pointed out that pro-Abu Dhabi media at the time promoted a different narrative, claiming he was killed in a Houthi drone attack.
He added that the date of the statement issued by the Giants Brigades mourning Al-Shabooti on the same day as the date in the leaked document serves — in his words — as evidence that the incident was a premeditated assassination directly overseen by the UAE’s operational command in the western coast.
As of now, there has been no official comment from the Emirati side regarding Mansour’s claims, amid growing calls for an investigation into the incident.
