The Yemeni strike on Israel’s Ramon Airport appears to have opened a new chapter of embarrassment for Tel Aviv, after the Hebrew-language newspaper Maariv described the success of Sanaa’s forces in targeting two international airports as a significant achievement and a major failure for the Israeli military.
In an extensive report published last Monday, the newspaper noted that the recent attack on Ramon Airport was not the first; it had been preceded by a similar strike on Ben Gurion Airport — placing Israel in a deeply uncomfortable position on the global stage.
According to the report, a civilian aircraft belonging to the airline Arkia narrowly escaped being a direct casualty of the attack, as the drone fell just meters away. Maariv described the incident as one that could have led to the complete shutdown of Israel’s civilian aviation sector.
The report added that the Israeli Air Force’s interception of hundreds of drones “does not change the overall picture,” as the successful penetration of even a single drone into Israeli airspace to strike a strategic target is enough to undermine confidence in the country’s defense system.
The newspaper concluded by affirming that the conflict with Yemen is unlikely to end anytime soon, stating that the Houthis (Ansar Allah) have unfinished business with Israel — and that the more intense the war in Gaza becomes, the more motivated they are to escalate their attacks deep inside Israeli territory.
