Assassination attempts have once again taken center stage in the security scene of Taiz, following the failed attempt to assassinate Member of Parliament Sheikh Ali Qaed Al-Wafi west of the city, in areas controlled by the Presidential Leadership Council, at the hands of armed elements affiliated with the internationally recognized government, on Saturday.
According to media sources, the MP was lured into an ambush by a group linked to the Islah Party, under the pretext of reopening a road in the Milat area of Jabal Habashi.
The sources indicated that the attack was carried out from a position held by government forces using a machine gun, but it failed to achieve its objectives. The incident was described as a “cowardly act” that violates all recognized norms and values.
Relevant authorities were urged to hold the Taiz Security Command and Military Axis accountable for investigating the incident promptly and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Activists and journalists also called on local and international human rights organizations to condemn these crimes, warning that they threaten stability and target parliamentary figures.

The incident comes nearly two months after the assassination of Aftehan Al-Mashhari, director of the Cleanliness and Improvement Fund, which activists say occurred due to her stance against corruption networks in the city.
