Danish shipping giant Maersk, one of the world’s largest maritime transport companies, has announced it will continue to suspend its vessels’ transit through Red Sea corridors, stating that the ceasefire agreement in Gaza is not sufficient to resume operations in the region.
In an official statement released today, the company clarified that it will not reconsider resuming shipping through the Red Sea unless a “comprehensive and long-term security solution” is reached to ensure the safety of its vessels and crew. It emphasized that maritime security remains under threat despite recent political developments.
Maersk expressed hope that the ceasefire agreement would serve as a first step toward ending the conflict and achieving lasting peace in the region, which could, in turn, promote stability in global maritime trade.
The company also highlighted a clear link between the escalating security risks in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait and the ongoing war on Gaza, but stressed that it is still too early to assess the full impact of these developments on Red Sea security.
