Medvedev Hints at Possibility of Supplying Iran with Nuclear Weapons

NYN | News

The Russian Federation has hinted at the possibility that Iran may be nearing possession of nuclear weapons, holding the United States and Israel responsible for this dangerous shift following their targeting of strategic Iranian facilities.

This position was expressed by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, who published a striking statement last Sunday on his Telegram channel. In it, he said that the recent U.S. strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities could lead to “unfortunate consequences,” and pointed out that some countries—without naming them—might be willing to supply Iran with nuclear weapons.

Medvedev strongly criticized U.S. policy, accusing former President Donald Trump of “starting a new war” in service of American interests, and sarcastically remarked that a Nobel Peace Prize would certainly not be awarded to him.

The Russian remarks reflect growing concern in Moscow over the region potentially slipping into a nuclear arms race, and they open the door to unconventional alliances amid ongoing Western military and economic pressure on Iran.

Observers believe the new Russian tone carries a dual message: a strategic warning about the consequences of Western strikes, and a political hint that the balance of deterrence in the Middle East could be redrawn—possibly through support for Iran with unconventional military or technological means if the escalation continues.
