Military circles are on high alert following a drone attack earlier today that targeted a naval patrol belonging to forces loyal to UAE-backed Presidential Leadership Council member Tareq Saleh, near Yemen’s Zuqar Island in the Red Sea.
Military sources reported that the attack was carried out using a drone, striking a location near the island, which has been turned into a military base by the UAE in recent years.
The sources confirmed that one of the patrol vessels suffered a direct hit, causing it to sink near the island’s coast, amid official silence regarding the extent of the losses.
While fingers are pointing at the Houthi movement (Ansar Allah) as the most likely party capable of launching such operations in the Red Sea, no official statement has been issued by the group so far. Similarly, the UAE-aligned forces have remained silent on the details and outcomes of the attack.
This development comes amid a surge in maritime operations in the Red Sea, as international warnings mount over the potential consequences of escalating confrontations on commercial shipping and regional security.
