Mysterious Tremor Strikes Sana’a

NYN | News

The Earthquake and Volcano Monitoring Center in Dhamar Governorate reported a light seismic tremor southwest of the capital, Sana’a, today, amid growing indications of increased seismic activity both locally and regionally.

In an official statement, the center said its stations recorded a 3.0-magnitude tremor on the Richter scale at 5:28 a.m., located 52 kilometers southwest of Sana’a. No damage or casualties have been reported.

The center also recorded seismic activity outside Yemen, including a 5.7-magnitude earthquake in Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula and another of 3.7 magnitude in Ethiopia.

The statement noted that specialized teams continue to monitor seismic activity around the clock, both domestically and internationally, in anticipation of any potential developments.

Last week, the center announced two other earthquakes — one measuring 5.1 magnitude east of the Gulf of Aden, and a minor 3.3-magnitude tremor southeast of Al-Bayda city, near the borders of Abyan Governorate.
