Mysterious incidents continue to unfold in the waterways near the Gulf of Aden, as the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced today a new attack targeting a cargo ship off the Somali coast. According to the report, armed assailants used RPG launchers and machine guns before managing to board the vessel.
The agency did not disclose the identity of the ship or the fate of its crew, but it warned passing vessels to avoid the area and urged heightened security vigilance.
This incident comes just days after two similar operations, at a time when U.S. forces, together with Western allies, are conducting extensive naval exercises near Yemeni waters under the banner of “Free Seas” — raising questions about the possible connection between the simultaneous escalation and these military maneuvers.
