Rescue efforts are ongoing off the southern coast of Yemen following a tragic incident that resulted in the deaths of at least 25 African migrants, while dozens remain missing after their boat capsized in the Arabian Sea.
According to security sources, the boat overturned on Sunday due to severe weather conditions and strong winds off the coast of Ahwar District in Abyan Governorate, during an irregular migration attempt originating from the Horn of Africa.
So far, 25 bodies have been recovered, found along the shores between the cities of Zinjibar and Shaqra, while rescue teams face significant challenges due to rough seas and limited resources.
In the same context, the Abyan Police Department announced the launch of a large-scale humanitarian operation to retrieve the bodies of the drowned migrants, noting that many were found along scattered beaches—an indication that more victims may still be at sea.
Security authorities stated that the recovered bodies are being transported to hospitals in Zinjibar, amid fears that the death toll may rise as search operations continue.
