The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning issued a warning on Wednesday, advising fishermen and ship captains to exercise caution due to rough seas and high waves around the Socotra Archipelago, and urging citizens to avoid valleys and flood channels.
The center forecasts moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across the governorates of Sa’dah, Hajjah, Al-Mahwit, ‘Amran, Sana’a, Dhamar, Raymah, Ibb, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhalea, and Taiz, in addition to the highlands of Lahj, Abyan, Shabwah, and Hadramawt.
Rainfall is also expected along the western coast, the Tihama plain, and parts of the southern and eastern coasts, as well as desert areas in Al-Jawf, Ma’rib, Shabwah, Hadramawt, and Al-Mahrah.
The center also warned drivers on long-distance routes and residents of mountainous areas about the risks of rockslides, soil erosion, and low visibility due to heavy rainfall and fog formation.
It is worth noting that Shabwah Governorate experienced a severe storm over the past two days, which triggered flash floods that swept through several districts, causing extensive damage to property and cutting off major roads — raising concerns that the scope of damage may expand as rainfall continues in the coming hours.
