In the ongoing search for a solution to the decade-long Yemeni crisis caused by the intervention of the coalition, former Yemeni President Ali Nasser Muhammad stressed the importance of dialogue and political partnership as a way to end the conflict.
Former President Ali Nasser confirmed his support for the participation of the Houthi group (Ansar Allah) in power, while also highlighting the importance of the Southern Transitional Council’s involvement in the governance of Yemen, without limiting the rule to the south alone.
In a statement to the BBC, Nasser explained that the Yemeni Peace Group, which he heads, has a political project aimed at pushing Yemeni, regional, and international parties toward dialogue, in order to restore a unified state under one president with a unified government and army.
He added: “We have experienced the horrors of wars in both the south and the north, and between both sides. Therefore, we call for an end to armed conflicts and resorting to the language of dialogue.”
Nasser did not deny the regional role in the Yemeni crisis but emphasized that some Yemeni parties have regional loyalties that affect the course of the conflict.
He mentioned that the Yemeni Peace Group seeks to engage in dialogue with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Iran, Qatar, and other countries in the region, calling on these nations to provide support and assistance to overcome the crisis.
He clarified that the efforts led by the Yemeni Peace Group are based on the principle of inclusive dialogue, without excluding any party.
Observers believe that the chances of success for a political consensus will remain limited if the leadership of the Southern Transitional Council continues to push for normalization with Israel, as this contradicts the principles of the Houthi group (Ansar Allah), which views Israel as an occupying and illegitimate entity that invades Arab lands and Islamic sanctities.
