Patience Runs Out: Hadhramaut Ignites and Aden Calls for Uprising

NYN | News

Public anger surged in the city of Mukalla, Hadhramaut Governorate, on Monday, reaching its peak as dozens of protesters stormed the local government headquarters—an unprecedented escalation against Yemen’s internationally recognized government and the Southern Transitional Council (STC).

The city experienced a complete shutdown after protesters fully closed the commercial port of Mukalla in a powerful message against corruption, the collapse of services, and continued Emirati-Saudi influence over the city’s vital infrastructure.

The protests, which began in the morning, intensified at night following a total power outage and amid the rapid collapse of the national currency. Public outrage grew over what demonstrators described as “starvation and impoverishment policies.”

Before storming the government building, protesters blocked roads with burning tires, demanding immediate measures to halt the economic collapse and improve living conditions and basic services.

Meanwhile, the “Hungry Revolution” movement in Aden called for widespread public escalation and declared a state of revolutionary alert. Protesters demanded the closure of the Al-Maashiq Presidential Palace and the headquarters of the Saudi-Emirati coalition, calling for a full civil disobedience campaign until all rights are secured and the starvation policies are overthrown.

These rapidly unfolding events reflect the depth of the crisis gripping areas under the control of the internationally recognized government, amid a suffocating economic collapse and near-total absence of essential services.

With public unrest intensifying and protests spreading, the country appears to be on the brink of a mass uprising—unless the government abandons its evasive tactics and urgently offers tangible solutions to halt the collapse and meet the demands of the people.
