Protest Against Discrimination in Front of the Ma’ashiq Palace

NYN | News

The Preparatory Committee for War Wounded in the southern governorates announced today its intention to hold an open sit-in in front of the Ma’ashiq Palace in the city of Aden, demanding the payment of salaries and entitlements for the wounded and the families of martyrs, as well as the approval of urgent grants to complete the treatment of wounded persons who have been unable to travel for years.

In its statement, the committee described the rights of the wounded and the martyrs as no longer deferrable, stressing that their patience has run out after more than a decade of marginalization and neglect. It emphasized the obligation of the coalition-backed Presidential Leadership Council to pay salaries without delay, immediately approve promotions for the martyrs and wounded of the southern defense forces, and allocate urgent grants to complete the treatment of the wounded who have been deprived for seven years—calling the current situation blatant discrimination in favor of the wounded from other governorates.

The committee also demanded equality in Saudi grants and pilgrimage quotas for Hajj and Umrah, the completion of land-allocation procedures, the construction of housing units for the families of martyrs and disabled wounded, and the prevention of any financial deductions from their salaries under any pretext.

The committee expressed its outright rejection of establishing a new wounds authority in its current form before restoring the plundered rights of southerners, stressing the need to activate the laws related to the care of the families of martyrs and wounded—foremost among them Law No. (5) of 1993.

This move comes after a series of similar protests in the cities of Taiz and Marib, where the wounded took to the streets demanding their confiscated rights in an effort to pressure authorities to ensure payment of entitlements and end discrimination between governorates.
