Protests Escalate in Mukalla as Military Zone Warns Against Violence

NYN | News

The city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramawt Governorate, is witnessing a wave of angry popular protests for the fourth consecutive day, amid the ongoing collapse of electricity services and growing demands for the dismissal of Governor Mubkhout bin Madi, alongside accusations of government inaction and corruption.

In the first military response, the Second Military Region Command, affiliated with Yemen’s internationally recognized government, called on citizens to support the Hadrami Elite Forces and public security, stressing that some protests had deviated from their peaceful course and taken a violent turn—reaching the point of attacks on state institutions and security personnel.

In an official statement, the command warned against inciting calls aimed at undermining security and spreading chaos, emphasizing that security forces will firmly confront any attempt to disturb public order or harm public and private property.

This development comes amid mounting public anger in the governorate, as protesters accuse local authorities of failing to improve basic services—especially electricity—at a time when the economic crisis is deepening and the government remains unable to offer tangible solutions.
