U.S. sources have revealed a new American military move and extensive regional coordination targeting the Sana’a government, coinciding with the rising threats from the Houthi group (Ansar Allah) against Israel in support of Palestine and Gaza.
According to statements from the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) and U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), General Michael Eric Kurilla, the head of CENTCOM, held closed-door military meetings with senior officials from several Arab countries and Israel to discuss confronting the Houthis (Ansar Allah) and the escalation in Yemen.
In a notable development, it was revealed that General Kurilla met with General Staff Major General Sagheer bin Aziz, the head of the forces loyal to the Aden-based government’s coalition, who traveled from Yemen to Saudi Arabia specifically to attend this closed meeting.
CENTCOM stated in its release: “General Kurilla discussed with Major General Sagheer bin Aziz and senior Saudi leaders, including Saudi Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Fayad bin Hamid Al-Ruwaili, shared security concerns and military readiness to face evolving threats in the region, especially the Houthi movements.”
The meeting also, according to the statement, addressed joint military cooperation, mutual commitment to counter the Houthis, and discussed the recent U.S. decision to re-designate the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization. This strongly indicates preparations for a broader military escalation that may directly target Sana’a.
CENTCOM added that General Kurilla’s visit to the region (from March 5 to 8) also included sensitive meetings with security officials in Israel, Jordan, Syria, and Saudi Arabia.
The appearance of Major General Sagheer bin Aziz at this secret meeting raises questions about the role of coalition forces in any upcoming escalation against Sana’a, especially as there is increasing talk of preparations for a new military battle in Yemen, potentially part of the larger U.S.-regional plan in the area.
It is worth noting that the meeting took place just hours after the Houthi leader (Ansar Allah) announced a deadline for the Israeli entity to lift the blockade on Gaza and allow food and medical supplies into the region.
