Sana’a Announces Joint Military Operations with Iraq on Ashdod and Haifa in Occupied Palestine, Hits Ship in the Red Sea

NYN | News

The Sana’a government forces announced today, Wednesday, the execution of a military operation targeting a ship that “violated the ban on entering the ports of occupied Palestine,” and two joint military operations with the Iraqi resistance on “important” targets of the Israeli enemy in the occupied Palestinian territories.

In a statement, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the Sana’a government forces, said: “The naval forces, missile force, and drone air force of the Yemeni Armed Forces conducted a special military operation targeting the ship (TUTOR) in the Red Sea using a drone boat, several drones, and ballistic missiles.” He added that the operation led to the ship being “severely damaged and at risk of sinking.”

He noted that “the ship was targeted because the owning company violated the ban on entering the ports of occupied Palestine,” warning “all companies against dealing with the Israeli enemy and against their ships reaching the ports of occupied Palestine; otherwise, they will be targeted in the operational area of the armed forces as stated in previous declarations.”

The statement revealed that the Yemeni Armed Forces carried out two joint military operations with the Iraqi resistance, “the first targeting a vital objective in Ashdod city with cruise missiles, and the second targeting an important objective in Haifa city with several drones,” claiming that “both operations achieved their goals successfully.”

The statement from the Sana’a government forces affirmed: “The Yemeni Armed Forces will continue their military operations in support of the Palestinian people’s cause and in response to the American-British aggression on our country until the aggression stops and the blockade on the Palestinian people in Gaza is lifted.”

It should be noted that earlier today, the British Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced that a commercial ship issued a distress call after being “attacked in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen,” stating in a declaration that “the ship was hit approximately 66 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah port,” and that “the rear of the ship collided with a small boat (5-7 meters in length, white in color).”

In this context, Reuters reported, citing two Greek shipping sources, that the ship “flying the Liberian flag sustained damage due to what appears to be a deliberate attack,” adding that “water has leaked into the engine room.”

The maritime news site TradeWinds reported that the cargo ship “Evalend Tutor” requires assistance after being bombed by the Houthis in the Red Sea, adding that “the ship’s engine was targeted twice from the sea and the air.”

It is likely that the ship, which sustained significant damage and water leakage into its engine room “after a double strike by the Houthis in the Red Sea on Wednesday,” will need to be towed.

Since late last year, the Sana’a government forces have been targeting Israeli objectives in the occupied Palestinian territories and Israeli-associated ships in the Red and Arabian Seas. They recently announced the extension of their operations to parts of the Indian Ocean and the beginning of the fourth phase of escalation against ships “up to the Mediterranean” to support Palestinians in Gaza. They assert that their operations against “Israel” will continue, conditioning the cessation of their military actions “in support of Gaza” on ending the aggression and lifting the blockade on Gaza.

In response, the United States and Britain launched airstrikes on Yemen, prompting the Sana’a government forces to declare that their operations would include targeting U.S. and British commercial and military ships in response to what they termed the “American-British aggression.”

On February 19, 2024, the European Union announced the launch of a military operation named “Aspis” led by Italy in the Red Sea, while the United States announced the launch of an operation named “Guardian of Prosperity,” both aiming to counter the attacks carried out by the Sana’a government forces against “Israel.”
