Sana’a government forces announced today, Tuesday, the deployment of a new domestically-made ballistic missile, which targeted an Israeli ship in the Arabian Sea.
In a statement, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the Sana’a government forces, said their forces targeted the Israeli ship (MSC SARAH V) in the Arabian Sea, adding that the hit was “precise.”
The statement read: “The Yemeni Armed Forces announce that this unique operation was carried out with a new ballistic missile that entered service after successfully completing experimental operations. The missile is characterized by its ability to hit targets accurately over long distances, as proven by this operation.”
He continued: “The Yemeni Armed Forces are continuing to develop their military capabilities to enhance their jihadist role in supporting the Palestinian resistance militarily and defending dear Yemen against the American and British aggression.” He affirmed that “the operations of the Yemeni Armed Forces will not cease until the aggression stops and the siege on the Palestinian people in Gaza is lifted.”
Saree clarified that the attack on the two ships was due to their violation of the prohibition on entering the ports of occupied Palestine, reiterating the warning to companies that continue to deal with the Israeli enemy that their ships will be targeted regardless of their destination.
Since late last year, Sana’a government forces have begun striking Israeli targets in the occupied Palestinian territories and targeting Israeli and affiliated ships in the Red and Arabian seas, before announcing the extension of their operations to parts of the Indian Ocean. Recently, they announced the beginning of the fourth phase of escalation against ships “even in the Mediterranean” to support Palestinians in Gaza. They assert that their operations against “Israel” will continue, conditional upon the end of the aggression and lifting of the blockade on Gaza to halt their military operations “in support of Gaza.”
In response, the United States and Britain launched airstrikes on Yemen, prompting the Sana’a government forces to announce that their operations would include targeting American and British commercial and military ships in retaliation for what they called the “American-British aggression.”
On February 19, 2024, the European Union announced the launch of a military operation named “Aspides,” led by Italy in the Red Sea, while the United States announced the launch of an operation named “Prosperity Guardian,” aimed at countering the attacks carried out by the Sana’a government forces against “Israel.”
