On Saturday, the Sana’a authorities announced the reopening of the Thura Mountain Pass Road, which connects the provinces of Al-Bayda and Abyan, after completing restoration work and removing obstacles left behind by the war, according to the official SABA news agency affiliated with Sana’a.
The opening ceremony was attended by the governors of Al-Bayda and Abyan, appointed by Sana’a, who confirmed that 96% of the maintenance work had been completed and that the road is now ready for public use, following the repair of damaged bridges and curves.
Al-Bayda Governor Abdullah Idris stated that reopening the road aims to alleviate the suffering of citizens who, during years of closure, were forced to take long and rugged alternative routes. He called on the other party (the internationally recognized government) to respond to this initiative, highlighting its importance as a public interest effort.
The Thura Pass Road is considered one of the key transportation arteries, which had been out of service for years due to the conflict—turning travel between Abyan and Al-Bayda into a daily hardship for many residents and travelers.
