The Yemeni issue continues to dominate the regional scene amid intensified efforts to revive the long-stalled political process.
In this context, the Sultanate of Oman continues its diplomatic efforts aimed at revitalizing the peace process.
The latest of these efforts came on Tuesday, when Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al-Harthy, Undersecretary of the Omani Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, met with Abda Sharif, the UK Ambassador to Yemen, to discuss the latest developments in Yemen and ways to support efforts toward reaching a comprehensive political solution.
According to the Omani News Agency, the meeting was held in Muscat, where both sides discussed the importance of creating suitable conditions for dialogue among Yemeni parties and the need to intensify regional and international support to reach an agreement that would end the conflict ongoing for nearly a decade.
The two officials also exchanged views on regional developments and efforts to achieve stability in the area, emphasizing Oman’s neutral mediating role in bridging differences and easing tensions to promote Yemen’s security and the stability of the Arabian Gulf.
These meetings are part of Oman’s ongoing mediation efforts, pursued for years by Muscat to facilitate understandings between the Sana’a government and the Saudi-led coalition, and to revive the UN-sponsored political process.
According to observers, the United Kingdom has reactivated its diplomatic mediation in Yemen amid escalating tensions on the ground. Meanwhile, Sana’a has demonstrated a clear seriousness in its military posture, accompanied by explicit political messages directed at Saudi Arabia — an indication of its readiness to return to confrontation if the continued stalling in implementing the requirements of lasting peace and lifting the economic blockade persists.
