The American magazine The National Interest revealed that U.S. Navy leaders are embarrassed by the failure of the United States’ massive military technology to effectively counter the drones and ballistic missiles used by the Houthis (Ansar Allah) in their attacks on American ships in the Red Sea.
The magazine confirmed that military leaders are working to develop new defensive technologies, drawing lessons from the “Houthi tactics” to address the growing threats in the complex combat environment.
The magazine quoted Admiral Darryl Lynn Codell, head of the U.S. Fleet Forces Command, as saying: “The U.S. Navy is embarrassed by its lack of laser weapons capable of countering drones.”
Codell added: “The Navy should be ashamed of its current conditions and battle readiness,” warning that the U.S. Department of Defense is facing a war of attrition that it cannot afford to lose but also cannot literally fight.
Codell pointed out that the U.S. Navy is using multi-million-dollar air defense missiles to shoot down drones that cost only tens of thousands of dollars, which he described as an unsustainable drain on resources.
On the other hand, the magazine highlighted the rapid and impressive development of Houthi military capabilities, noting that the Houthis (Ansar Allah) have successfully deployed anti-ship missiles that threaten American aircraft carriers, forcing the U.S. Navy to keep its ships at a distance and avoid approaching Yemeni coasts.
*The National Interest* emphasized that the effectiveness of American aircraft carriers is diminishing in the face of increasing threats from advanced ballistic missiles and modern anti-access systems, which the Houthis (Ansar Allah) have used with great success in defensive battles in Yemen and in supporting Palestinian resistance in the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean.
The magazine concluded that the U.S. Navy is facing an existential challenge due to the rapid technological advancements led by groups like the Houthis (Ansar Allah), necessitating a radical reassessment of its military strategies and defensive technologies.
