Serious Oil Spill Threatens International Shipping in the Red Sea

The Associated Press revealed that the U.S. Central Command refrained from providing any clarifications or answers regarding civilian casualties resulting from the recent American airstrikes targeting the Ras Isa oil terminal in Hudaydah province, which killed 80 workers and employees and injured more than 170 others with varying degrees of wounds.

The agency considered the airstrike on the Ras Isa facility to be the most violent attack so far within the ongoing American military campaign against Yemen, noting that satellite images showed widespread destruction affecting oil storage tanks, vehicles, and what appears to be a serious oil spill into the waters of the Red Sea.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Environment in the Sana’a government announced on Friday a preliminary toll of more than 250 martyrs and wounded from the strike, confirming that the number is expected to rise as search operations for the missing continue.

The ministry’s spokesman, Dr. Anis Al-Asbahi, explained that the death toll has so far reached 80, while the number of injured has exceeded 170, indicating that ambulance and civil defense teams are still carrying out rescue operations at the bombing site.

American warplanes had launched more than 14 airstrikes on the Ras Isa facility and its workers on Thursday evening, and later resumed targeting ambulance teams and civil defense crews as they attempted to rescue the victims.
