Silent Detention: The Story of the Fishermen Who Disappeared for Months

NYN | News

Six fishermen have returned to the fish landing center in Al-Salif District, Al-Hodeidah Governorate, in recent hours after being detained for more than four months in prisons in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, amid severe hardship and suffering.

The Red Sea Fisheries Authority strongly condemned these actions against unarmed fishermen, describing the arrests as a blatant violation of their rights and a denial of their ability to work freely and safely within Yemeni territorial waters.

The authority called on international human rights and humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene and pressure the military coalition to halt such assaults, protect fishermen, and ensure their right to fish within their legal maritime boundaries without threat or harassment.

These calls come amid ongoing coalition assaults and movements targeting Yemeni boats and fishermen, further worsening the suffering of local communities and threatening the region’s food security.
