Stimson Center: Washington Is Losing the Battle for Influence in Yemen

NYN | News

A report issued by the Stimson Center in Washington has revealed the failure of the U.S. strategy in Yemen, affirming that the military and political efforts led by the United States against the Houthi group (Ansar Allah) have not achieved their intended goals and have failed to curb Sanaa’s influence or impose U.S. will in the region.

The report, published by the center yesterday, stated that Sanaa’s forces have managed to withstand intense pressure and military operations carried out by the Saudi-led coalition with direct support from Washington. This, according to the center, reflects the limited capacity of the United States to exert field and political influence in the Yemeni conflict.

The center noted that this failure is not an isolated case, but rather part of a broader shift in the regional balance of power, as Sanaa has succeeded in developing advanced military capabilities, including ballistic missiles and drones, making it a regional actor capable of projecting influence beyond Yemen’s borders.

The report emphasized that the ongoing conflict in Yemen is reshaping both the political and military landscape of the Middle East. It urged U.S. policymakers to reassess their strategy toward this complex file in order to avoid further setbacks and to ensure a more realistic and stable approach to the region.
