Sudden Closure of Yemeni Ports… Escalating Confrontation!

NYN | News

The internationally recognized Yemeni Prime Minister, Salem Saleh bin Buraik, has issued a decree ordering the immediate closure of the ports of Ash-Shihr, Nashtoon, Ras al-Arah, and Qana, a move that has been met with strong opposition from local authorities in the concerned governorates.

According to a circular circulated by local media today, governors were instructed to take legal measures against any party obstructing the implementation of the decision. The order is based on Presidential Decree No. (11) of 2025, which mandates the closure of all maritime outlets operating in violation of laws and regulations, effective November 3, 2025.

The circular also required governors to submit urgent reports to the Council of Ministers detailing the progress of implementation and actions taken within three days of the decree’s enforcement, while maintaining daily follow-up until the closures are fully completed.

The decision has sparked a new crisis between the central government and local authorities, who accuse the government of attempting to seize control of their economic resources.
