Sudden Move in Sanaa Disrupts International Calculations

NYN |News

The ongoing dispute between Sanaa and Washington continues to escalate amid rising regional tensions over Yemen’s stance in support of Gaza and its rejection of U.S. threats.

Today, the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, witnessed an unexpected and massive public gathering in Al-Sabeen Square, less than 13 hours after the leader of the Houthi movement (Ansar Allah), Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, called for a popular referendum to support Gaza and confront recent U.S. threats.

Thousands of citizens gathered in the square, raising Palestinian and Yemeni flags while chanting slogans against the U.S. administration and its president, Donald Trump, whom they regarded as a symbol of aggression against free nations.

During the demonstration, banners were raised affirming continued support for the Palestinian resistance and warning U.S. forces against any escalatory action in the region or any attempt to invade Yemen.

Protesters chanted powerful slogans, expressing their full solidarity with the Palestinian people in the face of ongoing Israeli aggression.

This popular escalation comes amid increasing U.S. threats against the Sanaa government over its position on the war in Gaza. The rising popularity of the Houthis could complicate international calculations, potentially leading to wider regional developments beyond Yemen’s borders. Meanwhile, Washington insists on pressuring Sanaa to cease its support for the Palestinians, while Yemen remains steadfast in its commitment to backing the Palestinian resistance and confronting U.S. plans in the region.
