In a direct challenge to the U.S. administration, senior military leaders in Sana’a held a wide-ranging meeting of the National Defense Council on Sunday, chaired by the President of the Supreme Political Council in Sana’a, Mahdi Al-Mashat, just days after Washington claimed to have targeted and killed several top-ranking leaders.
The appearance of the Minister of Defense in the Government of Change and Reconstruction, Major General Mohammed Nasser Al-Atifi, came as a major surprise, as the U.S. administration had suggested he was assassinated in what it described as a series of “precision” airstrikes, part of its ongoing military escalation against Yemen.
The meeting, the first of its kind since the start of the latest round of confrontations, served to refute the American narrative and sent a clear message that the military leadership in Sana’a remains active and cohesive despite the intense U.S. attacks.
Media outlets affiliated with the Houthis (Ansar Allah) are expected to broadcast a speech later today by President Mahdi Al-Mashat, addressing Sana’a’s positions regarding the escalating U.S. actions and delivering messages to both domestic and international audiences about the next phase.
These developments come as the confrontation between Sana’a and Washington enters its second month, amid growing indications that the United States is failing to achieve its strategic objectives, despite launching the largest aerial bombing campaign since the beginning of the war.
The sudden reappearance of senior leaders adds to a series of evidence undermining the U.S. narrative of achieving “significant breakthroughs,” at a time when Washington’s losses in Yemen’s skies continue to mount, both politically and militarily.
