As part of its ongoing goodwill efforts on the prisoner issue, Sana’a announced today the release of a Sudanese prisoner who had participated in military operations within the ranks of the Saudi- and UAE-led coalition in Yemen, citing humanitarian reasons.
Abdul Qader Al-Murtadha, head of the Prisoners’ Affairs Committee in the Sana’a government, stated: “Under the directives of the leader, we released a Sudanese prisoner today for humanitarian reasons and handed him over to the International Committee of the Red Cross, which transported him to Saudi Arabia in preparation for his return to his home country.”
This step comes as part of several initiatives launched by Sana’a in recent months, including the release of prisoners of various nationalities, in an effort to push the prisoner file toward a humanitarian resolution, away from political and military complications.
Earlier, Sana’a had released a group of prisoners from Taiz province who had fought alongside coalition forces—an initiative that was widely welcomed and viewed as part of broader efforts to ease tensions and rebuild trust between the parties.
