The Earth Trembles Again in Yemen… Concerns Over an Imminent Disaster!

NYN | News

Seismic tremors continue in Yemen, signaling a notable increase in seismic activity that raises questions about its causes and potential consequences.

The Earthquake and Volcano Monitoring Center in Dhamar announced the detection of a light earthquake in the northwest of Yemen on the evening of Tuesday, March 11, 2025. The center stated in a report that the tremor had a magnitude of 2.7 on the Richter scale, recorded at 6:17 PM, about 14 kilometers southwest of Al-Mahwit governorate.

The center clarified that the tremor did not result in any human or material damage, emphasizing that it is part of the natural seismic activity in the region.

Earlier, on Monday, March 10, 2025, the Earthquake and Volcano Monitoring Center had reported a stronger earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale, which struck the area east of the Gulf of Aden.

In a related context, geological experts have warned of the possibility of a major earthquake affecting several countries, including Yemen, due to geological changes resulting from the impact of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. They indicated that the increasing hydrological pressures on the geological faults in the region could lead to unprecedented seismic activity in the near future.
