The Sana’a government announced today, Sunday, the resumption of flights between Sana’a and Egypt and India, starting this evening.
This announcement was made in a statement issued by the Yemen Airways Administration in Sana’a, according to the official news agency (Saba) of the Sana’a government.
According to the Anadolu Agency correspondent, this marks the first time in nearly 10 years that “direct” flights from Sana’a to Cairo and Mumbai have been scheduled since the conflict began in the country.
The statement reads: “Flights from Sana’a International Airport to Cairo and Mumbai airports will resume starting this evening, Sunday.”
The statement added that “flight schedules have been arranged between Sana’a and Cairo with one flight daily, and between Sana’a and India with two flights weekly, in implementation of the agreement between the governments of Sana’a and Aden.”
Last Tuesday, the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced that the governments of Aden and Sana’a had agreed on several measures to de-escalate economic tensions related to the banking sector and airlines. This included both sides reversing reciprocal punitive economic and banking measures.
The agreement also included “the resumption of Yemenia flights between Sana’a and Jordan, increasing the number of flights to three daily, and operating flights to Cairo and India daily, or as needed.”
