The Global Yemeni Migrants Union Launches International Campaign Demanding the Release of Manaa Suleiman

NYN | News

Calls from human rights organizations demanding the immediate release of Yemeni human rights activist Manaa Suleiman have intensified, as he remains detained for over a year in a prison in the city of Marib without formal charges or being brought before a court.

In this context, the Global Union of Yemeni Migrants issued an appeal to the Presidential Leadership Council, the Attorney General of the Republic, and several local and international human rights organizations, urging urgent intervention to end what it described as arbitrary detention, ongoing since June 2023.

The union stated that continuing to detain the activist without trial constitutes a grave violation of constitutional rightsand undermines public trust in the justice system. It noted that the unclear circumstances surrounding his arrest have exacerbated his family’s suffering and cast a dark shadow over the credibility of the judiciary.

The statement highlighted Manaa Suleiman’s well-known record of civil engagement and peaceful advocacy for public freedoms, stressing that his detention without legal basis contradicts the principles of justice that Yemenis aspire to during this complex transitional period.

The union confirmed that it had received an appeal from Suleiman’s family requesting intervention to end his suffering. In response, it launched a solidarity campaign under the hashtag:

#Free_Manaa_Suleiman

The aim is to expand both public and international pressure in support of his case and to ensure his legal and human rights are upheld.

The union concluded its statement by calling on all concerned authorities to fulfill their moral and legal responsibilitiesand to act in a manner that reflects the dignity of the state and its institutions.

It is worth noting that the Global Union of Yemeni Migrants is a non-governmental organization active in 57 countriesaround the world, headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands.
