As popular protests escalate against the collapse of services and rising prices in the southern provinces, media outlets close to the Southern Transitional Council have leaked its intention to form a new “Southern Government” consisting of 26 ministers.
According to leaks published by the “Southern Revolution Media Center,” the President of the Southern Transitional Council, Aidarus al-Zubaidi, has tasked lawyer Ali Haitham al-Gharib with forming the new government, which includes individuals loyal to the council, though no official announcement has been made so far.
This move comes amid worsening crises in Aden, including power outages of up to 20 hours a day, a shortage of drinking water, and an unprecedented collapse of the local currency. These issues have prompted thousands of citizens to take to the streets demanding a “decent life.”
Observers believe that al-Zubaidi is attempting to “polish the image” of the council, which faces accusations of being unable to manage Aden, despite its full control over the city’s financial resources. He is also trying to quell internal anger by deceiving the citizens into believing in a salvation project, especially with the ongoing large-scale protests against the collapse of services, including power cuts for days and the unprecedented decline of the Yemeni rial against the dollar.
