The Real Test Begins: Will Shipping Companies Heed the Warning?

NYN | News

The attack targeting the cargo vessel “Eternity C” has triggered wide-ranging security alerts among international maritime experts, amid growing concerns over the expanding risks in sea lanes connected to Israel.

The Jerusalem Post reported in recent hours that an intelligence official at the UK-based maritime risk management firm Vanguard Tech described the incident as a harsh wake-up call for the shipping sector, underscoring the importance of risk assessments when navigating through conflict zones.

The official stressed that the ongoing war in Gaza means that any vessel with even indirect links to Israel remains under direct threat. He added that the recent escalation in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea reflects a significant shift in the nature of the threats.

The source emphasized that verifying a vessel’s connection to Israeli ports should be a mandatory priority in the transit plans of shipping companies—not a secondary consideration. He warned that some companies continue to ignore such warnings, exposing themselves to serious and unavoidable risks.

This warning comes just days after Sana’a forces announced the implementation of the fourth phase of the maritime blockade, which includes targeting all ships owned by or affiliated with companies operating in Israeli ports, as part of their declared military campaign in support of Gaza.

These developments are expected to redraw the maritime risk map in the region, as calls intensify within the global shipping community to reassess transit and supply chain strategies, especially in light of no signs of a near end to the war on Gaza.
