The US envoy to Yemen visits 3 Gulf states to discuss halting Sanaa forces’ attacks

On Tuesday, the United States announced that its special envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, plans to tour the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, with the aim of seeking to halt the attacks by the Sanaa government forces on “Israel” and its vessels.

The US State Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs said the US Special Envoy to Yemen will travel to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman this week to “reinforce efforts to stop the Houthis’ reckless attacks in the Red Sea.”

It added in a statement via the “X” platform (formerly Twitter) that Lenderking’s tour of the three Gulf states also aims to “return to the peace process in Yemen.”

Since late last year, the Sanaa government forces have been targeting Israeli and associated ships in the Red and Arabian Seas, before announcing the expansion of their operations to part of the Indian Ocean.

They had previously announced the start of the fourth phase of escalation against ships “up to the Mediterranean” to support the Palestinians in Gaza.

The Sanaa forces say their operations against “Israel” will continue until the latter stops the genocide war in Gaza and lifts the blockade.

In response, the US and Britain launched air strikes on Yemen, with the Sanaa government forces declaring that their operations will include targeting US and British commercial and military ships in response to what they called the “US-British aggression.”

On February 19, 2024, the European Union announced the launch of a military operation called “Aspides” led by Italy in the Red Sea, while the United States announced the launch of an operation called “Guardian of Prosperity,” both aimed at confronting the attacks carried out by the Sanaa government forces against “Israel.”
