The American newspaper “The Wall Street Journal” quoted US officials as saying that their country is transferring fighter jets and drones to Qatar after the UAE canceled permission for American aircraft to strike Yemen and Iraq from its territory.
The newspaper wrote: “In February, the UAE informed the United States that it would no longer allow US military aircraft and drones stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base in Abu Dhabi to carry out strikes against targets in Yemen and Iraq. This prompted the US command to send additional aircraft to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.”
It is noted that the UAE made this decision out of fear of retaliatory strikes from Yemen or Iraq due to assisting the US military, according to the “Russia Today” website.
An Emirati official confirmed to the newspaper that the restrictions on combat sorties were adopted based on the principle of “self-protection.”
Furthermore, the decision was also made because the United States “was not in a hurry to take measures to protect the UAE” after attacks on its territory from abroad in 2022.
Additionally, the newspaper reported, citing an informed source, that the United States and Qatar agreed in recent days to transfer fighter jets, reconnaissance aircraft, and drones to Al Udeid Air Base.
US sources indicated that the United States is also considering the possibility of striking targets in the Middle East from Djibouti in East Africa.
Since mid-January, the United States and Britain have been bombing Houthi sites in Yemen, alleging that it is a response to threats to navigation in the Red Sea.
