Exclusive leaks have revealed that members of the Presidential Leadership Council, aligned with the Saudi-led coalition, have agreed to dismiss Prime Minister Ahmed Obeid bin Mubarak and several ministers in an attempt to “shake” the executive power structure. According to journalist Mustafa Al-Qutaybi, citing exclusive sources, the decision aims to quell the rising popular anger.
According to Al-Qutaybi, who is close to the coalition, the proposed replacements for bin Mubarak lack political weight and experience, suggesting that the changes may be “cosmetic” and fail to address the core issues that have drained the Yemeni public. There are warnings of continued economic collapse and a lack of basic services.
Al-Qutaybi confirmed that the dismissals come amid both international and domestic pressures, but he questioned, “Is the problem with individuals or a corrupt system that allows the plundering of public funds and neglects reforms?” He pointed out that replacing faces won’t stop the currency’s decline or restore electricity as long as corruption and failed management remain the true rulers.
Al-Qutaybi also questioned the council: “Why change the names while corruption devours the country? Will these dismissals address the revenue shortages or simply return to looting?” He held the Presidential Council accountable for failure if it settles for “illusory” changes without holding the corrupt accountable or reforming the collapsed administrative system.
Political sources highlight that the dismissals might be part of internal bargaining within the Saudi-Emirati coalition supporting the Presidential Council, especially with the increasing public protests, which no longer distinguish between the “government” and the “council” in holding responsibility for the collapse.
