CNN has revealed new hints from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the possibility of his intervention in the ongoing dispute between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, in what observers consider a sign of his attempt to open a “new gateway” for draining Gulf money for political and financial benefit.
Trump: I Can Get Involved
According to the network, a journalist asked Trump aboard Air Force One whether he had already intervened in the dispute between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi. He replied: “No, I haven’t… I can get involved.”
At the same time, Trump expressed clear willingness to intervene, affirming his confidence in his ability to “resolve the dispute between them easily,” in a direct reference to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed.
Observers: A Hint Carrying New Opportunities for Leverage
Observers believe this rhetoric aligns with Trump’s well-known approach in dealing with his Gulf allies. The dispute between Saudi Arabia and the UAE could represent a valuable opportunity for the U.S. president to exploit by:
Politically fueling tensions between the two sides
Leading each party to believe he is backing them behind the scenes
Imposing financial deals and pressure under the guise of “mediation”
A Heavy Financial Record Across His Terms
The network noted that during his first presidential term—as well as after his return to the White House—Trump secured hundreds of billions of dollars from Saudi Arabia and the UAE through deals, projects, and investments.
Reports have also spoken of direct support for his companies, in addition to personal and family gifts estimated to be worth vast sums, sparking widespread controversy over conflicts of interest and the use of political relationships for private gain.
