The city of Eilat, located at the far southern tip of Israel, is experiencing an unprecedented state of economic paralysis following the worsening impact of the shutdown of its vital port, due to naval attacks launched by Sanaa-based forces against ships linked to Israel in the Red Sea.
The Israeli newspaper Maariv reported yesterday on unprecedented waves of tension sweeping through the city and surrounding areas, triggered by the sudden collapse of heavy transport operations. Shipping companies in southern Israel have also announced severe losses resulting from the port’s closure.
In the same context, the American outlet The Cradle stated in an analytical report that the continued operations by the Houthis (Ansar Allah) in the Red Sea have made the resumption of Eilat Port’s activity practically impossible. The report added that the ongoing attacks from Yemen have effectively shut down one of Israel’s most strategic ports.
The report noted that the Eilat port is now essentially out of service due to the inability to secure maritime routes—a development that aligns with the Sanaa government’s declared commitment to maintain the naval blockade on Israel until it halts its aggression on Gaza and lifts the siege on its population.
The Sanaa government has repeatedly affirmed that it will not retreat from its maritime operations, asserting that the Red Sea has become an open front for resistance against Israeli crimes, amid international silence and U.S. failure to stop the attacks.
