An American magazine has warned the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump against engaging in direct conflict with the Houthis (Ansar Allah) following incidents involving the interception of Israeli ships and attacks on Israel.
In a report, Responsible Statecraft emphasized that escalating tensions with the Houthis, as planned under Trump’s forthcoming administration, would be a misguided step.
The magazine stated that such escalation would yield no positive outcomes other than an increase in civilian casualties in Yemen, endangerment of American sailors, and the unnecessary depletion of expensive munitions.
The publication, affiliated with the Quincy Institute, pointed out that the Houthis (Ansar Allah) have not ceased their military attacks after more than a year of ongoing conflict. It is unlikely their behavior will change with Trump assuming office.
In conclusion, the report stressed the need for the United States to leverage all its influence to end the war in Gaza and reduce the associated regional tensions.
The magazine also called for exploring ways to extricate the U.S. from Middle Eastern conflicts rather than seeking justifications to expand them.
