The British Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported today, Sunday, that it received a report of an incident 13 nautical miles southwest of Yemen’s Mocha port, but the ship and its crew are safe.
According to a note from UKMTO, a commercial vessel reported the approach of 12 small boats that remained around it for approximately an hour before leaving the site. The ship continued its voyage to the next port.
UKMTO did not provide further details regarding the ship’s nationality, the nature of its cargo, its destination, or the boats that intercepted it.
These statements come after Sana’a government forces announced targeting four ships in both the Red and Mediterranean seas, one of which was American, while the other three “violated the ban on access to occupied Palestinian ports.” This followed the U.S. military’s announcement two days ago of destroying seven drones and a vehicle belonging to Sana’a forces.
In solidarity with Gaza against the ongoing Israeli war since October 7 last year, Sana’a government forces have been targeting Israeli shipping or associated vessels in the Red Sea with missiles and drones since November 2023.
Washington, an ally of Israel, leads an international maritime coalition aimed at protecting maritime navigation in this strategic area, through which 12% of global trade passes.
Since the beginning of this year, the United States and Britain have been launching airstrikes and missile attacks on Yemen.
In response, Sana’a forces announced that they now consider all American and British ships as military targets, expanding their attacks to vessels in the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean, or any place within their weapon’s reach.
