UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, stated on Monday, “As the regional situation continues to complicate our ability to make progress in Yemen, we renew the call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.”
Grundberg made these remarks in a speech to the United Nations Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, with a specific focus on Yemen.
The UN envoy urged “all relevant parties to de-escalate in the Red Sea and its surroundings.”
Grundberg added, “As the regional situation continues to complicate our ability to make progress in Yemen, we reiterate the call of UN Secretary-General António Guterres for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.”
The UN envoy emphasized that “further violence will not resolve the conflict in Yemen. On the contrary, it will only exacerbate the suffering and risk losing the opportunity for a political settlement.”
He renewed the call for Yemeni parties to “exercise maximum restraint in their actions and words during this fragile period.”
