UN Meeting on Yemen Without Documents or Outcomes: What Was Withheld?

NYN | News

In mid-June, the halls of the United Nations Security Council witnessed unofficial, closed-door consultations focused on the activities of the Panel of Experts on Yemen, according to an announcement published on the official UN website on Thursday evening.

The statement noted that the panel delivered a visual presentation as a midterm update to the Yemen Sanctions Committee, followed by an interactive discussion between committee members and the expert panel. However, no details were disclosed regarding the outcomes of the discussions or any recommendations exchanged during the meeting.

The statement also made no reference to the status of the panel’s mandate renewal process, which is currently set to expire on December 15, 2025. It merely stated that the announcement does not constitute an official record of the deliberations.

The Panel of Experts on Yemen has been operating since 2014, tasked with monitoring the implementation of international sanctions imposed on Yemeni individuals and entities, in addition to preparing annual reports that track political, economic, and security developments in the country.
