Under the Spotlight: Yemen Quagmire Puts U.S. President’s Fate at Risk

NYN |News

Yemen appears to be turning into a quagmire and a massive trap that could sink U.S. President Donald Trump, exposing the falsehood of his claims about promoting peace in the Middle East.

According to Foreign Policy magazine, the U.S. military campaign in the Red Sea could lead to a significant drain on American military resources, amid warnings from military experts about the repercussions of these operations.

James Holmes, a professor at the U.S. Naval War College, noted that relying solely on air and naval power to counter the Houthi threat may not be sufficient to achieve military objectives.

He added that the continued military operations at this pace could weaken U.S. naval capabilities at a critical time when the United States faces multiple challenges in other parts of the world, particularly in the Pacific.

In another statement, a European naval expert described the U.S. campaign in the Red Sea as madness, warning that these operations could exhaust American military capabilities at a time of rising tensions with China.

Questions are mounting in Washington about the feasibility of military intervention in the Red Sea, with growing fears that it could turn into a prolonged war of attrition, reminiscent of the U.S. experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan.

For years, President Donald Trump had opposed the idea of the U.S. bearing the responsibility of securing maritime trade routes, arguing that Asian nations should shoulder this burden.

Trump has pointed out that the United States does not heavily rely on the Red Sea for its trade, raising questions about the continuation of the American military campaign in the region.

Analysts warn that the campaign could spiral into a long-term war of attrition, increasing pressure on the U.S. and affecting its ability to address other military challenges, particularly amid escalating tensions with China.
