Underground and Above: Houthis Employ New Technologies to Strike Israel

NYN | News

Amid ongoing U.S. airstrikes, the Hebrew press is questioning the effectiveness of these attacks in curbing Sanaa’s missile capabilities. The Jerusalem Post published a detailed report on how Sanaa’s forces continue launching missile attacks against Israel despite the U.S. air campaign.

The report, authored by military expert Seth J. Frantzman, stated that the Houthis (Ansar Allah) launched two long-range missiles at Israel on Thursday, aiming to demonstrate their ability to conduct repeated strikes despite military pressure.

The author noted that the timing of the latest attacks, on Sunday and Thursday, was carefully chosen to coincide with peak civilian activity, a strategic move designed to instill fear among Israelis.

The report also highlighted the Houthis’ (Ansar Allah) ability to maintain their missile arsenal using advanced concealment techniques, such as storing missiles in underground bunkers or transporting them via trucks and containers.

The writer pointed out the challenges U.S. forces face in tracking and destroying these missiles, recalling the failure of “Operation Scorpion” against Iraqi Scud missiles during the 1991 Gulf War, when American aircraft were unable to prevent missile strikes on Israel.

He explained that Yemen’s rugged mountainous terrain, filled with caves and underground tunnels, makes detecting and neutralizing these threats extremely difficult.

The report concluded that Israeli and U.S. airstrikes have failed to deter the Houthis (Ansar Allah), who have continued their attacks for over 17 months. This situation has created an unprecedented reality in Israel, forcing millions of civilians to remain in shelters for extended periods.
