Informed sources revealed that the Sanaa government and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have reached understandings, under regional sponsorship, to resume flights through Sanaa International Airport after a period of suspension.
The sources told Yemen Al-Jadeed News that the understandings include dedicating a Yemenia Airlines aircraft to operate flights from Sanaa to Jordan, as part of new arrangements to reactivate the air route.
Flights to Jordan via a Yemenia-dedicated plane
The sources explained that the agreement involves assigning a Yemenia Airlines plane to operate flights from Sanaa to Amman, ensuring the continuation of flights on a regular schedule.
Opening Al-Mokha Airport included in the understandings
The sources added that the understandings also include Sanaa’s approval to open Al-Mokha Airport in Taiz governorate (southwest Yemen), as part of reciprocal arrangements for resuming air traffic operations.
Background: Sanaa blocked a flight from Jeddah to Al-Mokha
Last week, the Sanaa government prevented a Yemenia Airlines commercial flight from operating from Jeddah Airport in Saudi Arabia to Al-Mokha Airport, amid the ongoing suspension of flights through Sanaa International Airport.
