United Nations Receives Urgent Message from Sana’a

NYN | News

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sanaa sent an official letter today to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the Security Council. The letter was circulated to all UN member states, the European Union, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as the UN Special Envoy to Yemen.

Signed by Deputy Foreign Minister Abdulwahid Abu Ras, the letter detailed the Israeli attack on the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and Al-Jawf Governorate during what has come to be known as “Bloody Wednesday.” It confirmed that the airstrikes targeted a media institution located within a residential neighborhood, a medical fuel station, and a government complex, resulting in the deaths of 46 civilians and the injury of 165 others, including journalists, children, and women. Several homes and historic buildings were also damaged, including the National Museum in Sanaa.

Sanaa’s Foreign Ministry described the attack as a “flagrant violation” of the UN Charter, Yemen’s sovereignty, and international humanitarian law. It noted that the strike came just two weeks after another attack that targeted the Prime Minister of the National Salvation Government and several of his colleagues — which it called “a dangerous precedent in relations between nations.”

The letter strongly rejected Israeli claims that the strikes were aimed at military targets in Yemen, calling them “deliberate misinformation.” It emphasized that since July 2024, the aggression has focused primarily on civilians and civilian infrastructure — including airports, ports, power stations, fuel depots, and factories. According to the letter, this reflects both military failure and a desperate attempt to manufacture a false victory.

The Ministry reaffirmed that the Republic of Yemen will continue to exercise its right to self-defense, as guaranteed by international laws and charters. It warned that the Zionist entity poses a threat not only to the region but to the entire world, holding the United States directly responsible as a partner in these crimes through its ongoing political and military support for Tel Aviv.

Sanaa also renewed its call on the United Nations, the Security Council, and the international community to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities and to stop the aggression against both Yemen and Gaza. The letter concluded by warning that continued silence serves as a “green light” for Israel to persist in its crimes, and undermines public trust in international law and global institutions.
