Unprecedented British and American Aerial Activity Near Yemen: Is the Countdown Underway?

NYN | News

The region surrounding Yemen and the Bab al-Mandab Strait is witnessing a significant surge in aerial military activity by British and American forces, marked by increased reconnaissance and aerial refueling operations—signaling a heightened state of operational readiness.

In recent hours, a British RC-135W Rivet Joint reconnaissance aircraft (tail number ZZ664) was directed to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, while another aircraft of the same type (ZZ666) flew toward Yemeni airspace—a move that suggests intensified intelligence-gathering efforts.

In the same context, another RC-135W completed an eight-hour mission around Yemen before returning to Al Udeid, with the operation dedicated to monitoring and analyzing the field situation.

On the logistical front, two KC2 Voyager aerial refueling tankers are en route to Al Udeid, enhancing the Royal Air Force’s capability to conduct long-range missions in the region.

Meanwhile, a KC3 Voyager and Eurofighter Typhoon—both operated by the Royal Air Force—returned from the Red Sea region. At the same time, a U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon aircraft is heading toward the Gulf of Aden, further indicating joint operational coordination among Western forces around Yemen.

These movements come amid intensified U.S. and British military activity near Yemen, raising questions about potential upcoming objectives. Observers suggest that the current maneuvers may be part of preparations for possible airstrikes targeting positions held by Sanaa forces (Houthis).
