Israeli media officially unveiled the visit of an Israeli journalist, part of a delegation from the Middle East Forum, to the temporary capital Aden in mid-July, in a move that sparked wide interest both locally and internationally.
The visit was coordinated directly with the Southern Transitional Council, which hosted the delegation at the headquarters of the Southern National Media Authority in the presence of prominent leaders, including Mukhtar Al-Yafai and several council officials.
According to a report published yesterday by The Jerusalem Post, the delegation held a series of meetings with Yemeni officials, including Ali Al-Katiri, President of the Transitional Council’s National Assembly, and Abu Nasr, the Council’s Intelligence Chief. They also met with Major General Mohsen Al-Daari, Defense Minister of the internationally recognized government, discussing joint operational plans and the challenges they face.
The report stated that the commander of the Transitional Council’s joint forces presented the Israeli delegation with a detailed list of military equipment needed to confront the Houthis (Ansar Allah). This list included light and heavy machine guns, air defense systems, reconnaissance drones, low-altitude anti-drone air defense systems, and night vision equipment.
The delegation’s program also included field tours in the fronts of Al-Dhalea Governorate, where they met with field commanders affiliated with the Transitional Council forces. This raised questions about the strategic implications of the visit and the possibility of undisclosed coordination between Tel Aviv and the Transitional Council, amid accusations that the UAE has opened secret communication channels between the two parties.
According to previous media reports, Israel seeks to expand its influence in provinces under the control of the internationally recognized government in an effort to pressure the Sanaa government due to its military and logistical support for the Gaza Strip and its blockade of Israeli navigation.
