What Happened in Sana’a Today Will Not Be Forgotten in Washington

NYN | News

This Friday afternoon, the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, witnessed a massive public demonstration, with tens of thousands of citizens gathering at Al-Sabeen Square, raising the flags of Yemen and Palestine in a powerful message that goes beyond traditional protests.

The demonstrators, who filled the square, chanted angry slogans against the U.S. administration, affirming that Yemen would not be a playground for American hegemony.

The banners raised amidst the crowd not only expressed solidarity with Palestine but also threatened direct retaliation if U.S. forces took any military action in Yemen or the region. This was a popular escalation that translated Sana’a’s political stance into a popular sentiment that cannot be ignored.

A statement issued during the protest firmly reiterated the commitment to not abandon the Palestinian people in Gaza, pledging continued support for the resistance through military operations targeting the Israeli entity, while maintaining the maritime blockade on Israeli ports at any cost until the aggression stops completely and the suffering in Gaza is alleviated.

Amid escalating threats from Washington against the Sana’a government for its support of the Palestinian resistance in Gaza, it seems the Yemeni arena has become a new battleground for a contest of wills. Sana’a insists on breaking the hegemony, while the U.S. administration finds itself confronting an Arab popular reality that is difficult to bend, warning of wider regional shifts that could reshape the political landscape of the Middle East.
